I know that some who read this have published multiple poems in multiple places. So I want to ask, just for the hell of it. How should publishing poems, getting poems published, feel? Should it feel anyway at all? Should it feel like, 'This is what it's all about'? Have you ever had an experience of getting something published, and felt say, immensely satisified? Or on the flip, immensely unsatisfied, anitclimatic? (Is there a third 'c' in that word?)

I am never satisfied. The only thing that sometimes satisfies me is when I take the paprika halo and jog my garnish troll into a piping hot extension, ya know?

Saw you have a long piece in the new CPR - congratulations.

To answer your question: It's satisfying, but temporarily. Then you do it again. (The Treadmill Poetry domain is available, btw.)

The actual experience is like hearing a recording of your voice -- it can be disorienting to be objectified, to see for a moment how you present yourself.

Some people say the history of American poetry is the story of anti-joiners, and there's something to that. But Dickinson really wanted to be in the Atlantic, and Whitman wanted a blurb from Emerson badly enough not to ask permission.

Publishing is sort of like anti-joining two piping hot trains of volume.
